Ode to Winkie (March 2015)

The brave little pigeon flew and flew

And flew, and flew, and flew, and flew

Its wings were tired, its body was aching

But it knew, it knew, what it had to do

The courageous airmen crashed into the sea

Bobbing about in a life raft anxiously

The Skipper wrote his message short and brief

D for Duncan ditched into the sea

one twenty-five pm 14th February nineteen forty-three

The winter storm raged overhead

Rain, sleet and snow ever so cold

But the brave little pigeon flew and flew

Because it knew, it knew, what it had to do

Those precious lives it had to save

The cold and snow it had to brave

And battled on relentlessly

Across the raging sea so threateningly!

With daylight fading and darkness descending

It flew and flew because it knew, and knew

What it had to do

With wings aching and covered with snow

Its strength ebbing away ever so slow

But that precious message attached to its leg

Urged it on and it flew and flew

Because it knew and knew what it had to do

The dark outline of land appeared at last

With aching wings and body so cold

It flew and flew through sleet and snow

Until home at last it circled once

And dropped exhausted into the Cree it knew

The loft man looked at it with tears in his eyes

It had saved those precious airmen's lives

Because it knew and knew what it had to do

As it flew and flew and flew and flew

A Birthday Wish (Mar 2014)

Switch on, have fun, laugh and be merry.

And may every wish bring nothing less

Than everything you'd wish for yourself.

But since it lasts for just a little while

Remember to celebrate it in style

Relax and enjoy this special day

And when it has ended

May the happiness it brought for you

Linger on, and last your whole life though.

A house is a home (Jan 2014)

A house is a home if love abides

With children playing round a warm fireside

A house is a home if hearts entwine

To love and cherish till the end of time

A house is a home if happiness holds sway

From break of dawn till end of day

A house is a home if children abound

With Mum and Dad to help around

A house is a home when friends arrive

To enjoy the welcome that is given inside

A house is a home if God dwells there

To watch and listen to a prayer
